Innocents

“Innocents, our heart rejects silence”, the acting study, was an absolute success
freely based on “The State of Siege” by A. Camus, performed on Thursday evening 20 February at the
“R. Gentile” Theater in Cittanova. The protagonists are the third year students of the Acting School of the
Calabria led by their teacher, Renata Falcone, in collaboration with the Director Walter Cordopatri and
with the teachers and students of the first and second, Medium and Junior. A challenge, a change of direction that the SRC wanted to undertake, in the name of the essential, so that the actor and his pure and clear interpretation are at the center. A new path to follow in order to show the public nothing other than the art of acting, which cannot be improvised, which is the fruit of passion, yes, but also of sacrifice, commitment, daily study. The fulcrum of everything was research, experimentation, the actor's ability to find new worlds and new spaces within himself, and not outside. Therefore, no scenography, no frills, just six cubes which were now a pulpit, now a support, now a shelter and the ability to create, from that little and with that little, action and interaction, relationship and synergy. A silence in the room that felt religious, an astonished audience, taken aback by the strength and crudeness of the text, overwhelmed by the energy that the kids were able to draw and transfer into interpreting it. A precise directorial choice is to focus this acting study only on the first and second acts of the opera, while still presenting a complete work in itself. The second act of "The State of Siege" is the one that opens up the most questions, which pushes the spectator to ask questions about himself, about the world around him, about the society in which he lives, about the various forms of oppression and resistance to oppression. Pushing for reflection, this was precisely the objective: "because what we want to do is leave the public with questions, rather than giving them pre-packaged, often unsolicited answers". And the SRC students did it masterfully, with the interpretative power and artistic level of true professionals.
