Getting here

Cittanova is a town of just over 10,000 residents in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria, set at the foot of the Aspromonte and facing the Piana di Gioia Tauro. The historic centre holds churches of significant artistic and architectural interest alongside 19th-century palazzi with hand-carved granite and sandstone portals.

Cittanova sits along the Strada Provinciale 1 (formerly Strada Statale 111), the main link between Calabria's Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts. The town has no direct motorway access; the Gioia Tauro and Rosarno exits on the A3 are the recommended routes. The Strada Provinciale 47 (Cittanova–Polistena) connects to the Jonio–Tirreno expressway, and the Strada Provinciale 33 links Cittanova to Rizziconi and Gioia Tauro. Lirosi coach lines and Ferrovie della Calabria buses connect Cittanova to Reggio Calabria, Palmi, Gioia Tauro, Siderno, Locri, Catanzaro and Rende.
