“Whatever you want to do, or dream of doing, begin it” said Goethe. Nothing could be more true, because starting a journey, a new activity is the only way to understand if it is the right path to follow or to discover unexpected ones in which to express your talent. This was the case for Vincenzo Oppedisano who arrived at SRC at just 8 years old convinced that his experience with acting would not last long.
Seven years have passed since that first day at SRC, today he is 15 and continues to study and attend our labs with perseverance. Performer in the role of Alfonso Cacciola in the series “The Good Mothers: The True Story of the Women Who Took on the World's Most Powerful Mafia” available on Disney+, Vincenzo teaches us that we should never preclude ourselves from trying.
In this interview Vincenzo shared with us some steps of his journey in acting, from when he started to today.
How old were you when you started acting?
I enrolled in school when I was only 8 years old, now I'm 15. I started by chance, I thought I wouldn't continue for long, but now I've been attending it for 7 years.
What does having an Acting School in your town mean to you as a citizen of Cittanova?
I saw the school practically born, so it was nice to see how it has grown over the years. In the entire Calabrian territory there are no other acting schools that offer the opportunities that the SRC offers to young people. With the importance it has acquired over the years, it means a lot to me to have it here in my country.
Did you have difficulty balancing school, drama school, and the set?
I've never had any problem reconciling acting with school, because lessons at acting school, for kids my age, take just a few hours a week. During filming, however, in the periods in which I had to be away on set, even if I wasn't attending school I tried to inform myself and keep up with the program. It definitely helped me to have understanding teachers who supported me during that time.
How much did the Calabria Acting School help you grow and recognize your strengths? How?
The SRC helped me from an early age to open up to others. Through improvisations and acting exercises, I greatly improved my speaking, ability to work in a group and management of emotions.
How did it go with the cast, how did you experience these moments?
The cast and staff on set were immediately kind and helpful to me. For this reason, despite it being my first experience, I immediately felt at ease. I carry with me many fond memories of that period.
Why is acting at your age good for you?
Acting is good for all ages, especially at my age it can help us grow and better prepare for the future.
Three good reasons why a young person like you should enroll in the Calabria Acting School.
The first reason to join the SRC is certainly personal growth. The second is the type of professional training that prepares you to work in the world of cinema or theatre. The third reason is the development of creativity and imagination: each of us can explore different situations and identities, as well as tell stories and learn more about ourselves.
