The Calabria Acting School (SRC) is pleased to announce the participation of two of its students in an unprecedented series available on Disney+ from 5 April 2023: The Good Mothers.
“The Good Mothers: The True Story of the Women Who Took on the World's Most Powerful Mafia” follows the true stories of women who grew up within the most ferocious and richest 'Ndrangheta clans. Strong women, who have torn the veil of silence that typically envelops Calabrian criminal organizations and who have fought against an oppressive patriarchal system characterized by murderous misogyny. The series, a television adaptation of the bestseller by journalist Alex Perry, already awarded by the Foreign Press Association, was presented as a world premiere during the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, and was then awarded the Berlinale Series Award.
Vincenzo Oppedisano and Nicole Sorace stars in The Good Mothers
There are two young talents from SRC involved in the project: Vincenzo Oppedisano, 13 years old, from Cittanova, student of the SRC for 6 years plays Alfonso Cacciola, son of Maria Concetta Cacciola (Simona Distefano); and Nicole Sorace, 14 years old, originally from Polistena, student of the SRC for 3 years, plays Alfonso Cacciola's sister.
The SRC was founded in 2017 in Cittanova (RC), from the desire of Walter Cordopatri - director of the SRC and actor of theatre, cinema and television, graduated from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome - to create in his homeland a point of reference for aspiring actors, Calabrian and otherwise, so that they can approach the profession without having to abandon their land of origin. Since January 2019, the role of educational coordinator has been held by Giorgio Colangeli, already winner of a Silver Ribbon and the David di Donatello.
The school - which has the patronage of the Municipality of Cittanova and enjoys the official collaboration of the Giffoni Film Festival - was born in a context, that of the Piana di Gioia Tauro, but also of Calabria and the South in general, of strong demographic decay given by the flight of young people towards other regions in search of new opportunities. That of the SRC is therefore a promise made to the new generations driven by the desire for recovery and revenge and by the desire to revive the territory starting from young people. The SRC thus affects a catchment area that goes beyond the borders of Cittanova and Calabria, extending across the entire regional and national territory. There is therefore no hiding the desire to become a point of reference, in the future, not only in Italy, but also abroad. And that's why The Good Mothers is such a great achievement: “The Good Mothers makes us proud of our talents but above all of what we have managed to do in such a short time. In just six years we have managed not only to train our children, but to bring them, like the school, to the attention of an international audience. This shows how tenacious and resilient this area is and how strong and talented its youth is”, says Walter Cordopatri.
Giorgio Colangeli continues: “It is not often that we see young talents move quickly from school to professional activity. SRC managed to train these kids in a short time and bring them on set for an incredible professional experience”.
