What is it that every actor and actress has in common? How did they start working in cinema or theatre?
The answer is in one word: the audition. That moment when you appear in front of casting director, producers, actors and actresses and we get involved to get a part or join an Acting School. That experience that helps improve yourself and their performances, to make themselves known and get to know each other more.
The audition is, in fact, a time well spent, it helps
- to reflect on one's weaknesses
- to understand what to train more on and what to change
- to learn to recognize who is in front of you
- to be able to communicate and communicate better
- to manage stress
- to be better prepared to face the next ones with greater confidence and energy.
So here are five tips, real mantras we call them, which if followed will make you look good and will allow you to show your qualities with greater confidence and have more chances to be chosen.
Mantra 1 Study, study, study
Before every audition get ready. Choose a text that is right for you. A poem, or a monologue or any other work doesn't matter, choose the one you find yourself in and make it yours.
It comes with an excellent memory. If you know your text well you will convey trust and this really matters a lot.
Therefore: study, study, study.
Mantra 2 Have fun, play, enjoy the moment
We know that anxiety is not a great friend of performances, yet it is that presence that imposes itself, without ever being invited.
Being tense is normal before an audition, but when you start acting, that's your moment. Don't let the anxiety of doing well limit the expression of you and your talent. Don't think about who judges you, but he acts with the passion to do it, for the fun of it. Be present to yourself and give the people present the pleasure of listening to you. To do all this: have fun, play, enjoy the momentor.
Mantra 3 Respect the time, be punctual, don't be late
Punctuality is always a good business card. AND synonymous with respect for those who will welcome you and examine you and for the other people who live the experience with you.
Always better arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time, especially if it's an open audition. If you have an audition scheduled, make sure you have nothing else planned for that date. Be well informed about place to reach, on theexact time, up how long it lasts and if you need to bring something with you. Reserve the necessary time to concentrate on the piece, just like a professional actor would do. You might even risk missing the audition, so: respect the time, be punctual, don't be late.
Mantra 4 Choose the outfit that represents who you are and the text you wear
Speaking of the outfit, dress appropriately.
There is no point in trying to hide or emphasize characteristics that are or are not part of you through the clothes you wear. You may be the right person for one role and not for another. The important thing is feel confident, as it is.
Dress casually or appropriately for the character you are playingor. Bring one complete proposal, original and creative, rewards. Your character requires a trick, do it. During an audition you can immediately tell if you are uncomfortable with what you are wearing so: choose the outfit that represents who you are and the text you wear.
Mantra 5 Simply be yourself
Be authentic. The world already has enough copies, so embrace what makes you unique. Don't try to be someone else, but bring yourself to every audition. People love authenticity, and this will make you stand out. Take it as a challenge to overcome your fragilities and live it as an experience that can unlock you. Don't suffer from the people around you, but bring out your potential, let yourself be known. Excite and let yourself be chosen for the truth of who you are. Just be yourself.
You learn quite a few things from an audition. You grow and improve by also understanding your own mistakes.
Whatever type of text you decide to use for an audition, study it and enjoy the moment. Jouer And to play they are the two verbs with which the French and English indicate acting and playing, and it is no coincidence. When you recite, have fun, always respecting these mantras!
