New perspectives in Calabria: the SRC meets the Giffoni Film Festival in Cittanova

The Prósōpon Association, together with the SRC (Calabria Acting School), is pleased to present the event: "New perspectives in Calabria: the Calabria Acting School meets the Giffoni Film Festival in Cittanova".

The initiative, carried out with the collaboration and patronage of the Administration of the Municipality of Cittanova, will take place on Saturday 22 April 2017 throughout the day: the scheduled start time is 10.00 am, at the Cinema Teatro "R. Gentile" of Cittanova.

This first phase will be entirely dedicated to young people and schools: the students identified by the various regional institutes will have the opportunity to get to know and meet Claudio Gubitosi, creator and Artistic Director of the "Giffoni Film Festival".

The objective is to make the territory aware of frontier experiences such as those of the GFF and the SRC, creating a moment of discussion on shared and current issues such as adolescence and school, dreams and future prospects within geographical areas characterized by considerable socio-economic contradictions such as Calabria. Our guest will talk about his extraordinary experience regarding the conception and implementation of the prestigious Festival, now famous throughout the world, and then lend himself to a discussion session with the students themselves.

Following this, precisely from 4.00 pm, the "Polo Solidale per la legalità Francesco Vinci", headquarters of the SRC, will host a press conference and open discussion based on topics similar to those of the morning session. In the afternoon, as well as SRC, Giffoni Film Festival, Municipality of Cittanova and Regional Institutions, students of currently existing courses will also be present.

A moment, therefore, of great cultural and artistic importance for the Calabrian territory, which places cinema at the center as a path of growth and training for everyone.

The following will take part in the Conference:

Claudio Gubitosi (Creator and Artistic Director of the Giffoni Film Festival);

Francesco Cosentino (Mayor of Cittanova);

Roberto Tigani (Prósōpon Association);

Walter Cordopatri (SRC Artistic Director).

The Municipality of Cittanova «enjoys [...] a vast and enchanting panorama which from the amphitheater of mountains and hills that surround it on three sides extends to the plain below which ends at the Gulf of Gioia, from where the blue expanse of the Tyrrhenian Sea begins». Thus wrote V. De Cristo.

A municipality therefore "with a new horizon": that of a Gentle City, capable of rebuilding a strong, yet gentle identity, starting from the excellent examples of the many illustrious citizens of Cittanova who have been able to bring the pride of being born in Cittanova outside the border.

The Calabria Acting School is located in Cittanova in the province of Reggio Calabria, and is dedicated to all those who want to undertake the acting profession with seriousness and dedication. The SRC is a school that is not limited to being a simple gym for training and practicing dramatic art, but also an opportunity to verify any connections between cinema, theater and life; a place where it is possible to obtain useful and mutual teachings both on a traditionally understood stage and in everyday "human comedy". In our region today there is still no similar project or school, capable of bridging the total fertility in the field of acting and which can contribute to a local, provincial, regional and national cultural exchange. A real socio-cultural investment which will hopefully bring prestige and progress to the municipality of Cittanova, the province of Reggio Calabria and the entire Calabria region.

The Giffoni Film Festival, organized by the Giffoni Experience Autonomous Body, a non-profit association established in 1973 and supported by the Campania Region, with the support of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Province of Salerno and the Municipality of Giffoni Valle Piana, as well as other associations, organizations, institutions and private sponsors, has represented a testing ground for productions aimed at children, young people and adolescents for 47 years. An ideal place for lively discussions between producers, authors and distributors, but also between the production universe and the relevant public, the festival promotes the knowledge and diffusion of products of high artistic value, capable of contributing to cultural growth and the formation of a mature critical conscience in young people.
