23 March 2024
From yesterday 21 March 2024, and in the coming weeks, we will have one more reason to go to the cinema. Another student of the Calabria Acting School is the protagonist of a great production, “We were children” by Marco Martani. This is Matteo Ferrara, a student of our Lab Medium, former protagonist of "The Best of Evils" produced by Solaria Film and Minerva Pictures.
Matteo teaches us that when you have a passion, with study and perseverance it can become much more: giving you excitement and fun, opening your eyes to what you want to do when you grow up.
To prepare him for the casting we created the scenes and, as it was for Nicole Sorace, Federica Sottile, Vincenzo Oppedisano, we tried and tried again.
In this short interview Matteo shared with us some steps of his journey in acting, from before he started to today.
How old were you when you started acting? And where?
I started when I was 10, I acted in primary school shows and from there I fell so in love with acting that I chose to continue.
What was it like having to balance school with the Acting School and the set?
Let's say that over time I learned to organize myself! I have been attending acting school for more than two years now and in order to go I have always tried not to take anything away from the School.
Even when we filmed “The Best of Evils,” I was gone for two months, but I continued to study to keep up with the schedule. I'm managing for now!
How much did the Calabria Acting School help you grow and recognize your strengths? How?
The Calabria Acting School gave me a lot: it taught me to recognize my strengths, work on myself at 360 degrees. Sharing my emotions and getting involved in a group, this helped me especially in everyday life.
How did it go with the cast, how did you experience these moments?
I tried to live every experience to the fullest, having fun and taking advantage of everything I learned. I met many professionals and friends.
How did you feel acting on the set of We Were Children?
When I acted in “We were children” I was 14 years old and I have many beautiful memories and emotions. I remember that the first few times on set I was "slightly" nervous because it was my first participation in a large production, but I really enjoyed it. The moment I interacted with the whole cast I understood that this was what I wanted to do in life.
Why is acting at your age good for you?
Acting at my age helps a lot, it helps to express oneself better, to pronounce the words, to overcome what we call the fear of approaching an audience and in public. It is an incentive to do more and more and we free ourselves from anxiety and those obstacles that we place ourselves.
Three good reasons why a young person like you should enroll in the Calabria Acting School.
The first reason why I recommend enrolling in the Calabria Acting School is to approach the world of acting and learn, the second to strengthen your skills, the third reason to make your dream come true. If it is to act, it can really be realized.
Proud to have contributed to making part of his dreams come true, and to be able to accompany him before and after the take!
