Flavia Orecchio, because acting is good for any age

Learning to act is a long journey, becoming a good actor or actress is. There are, however, values that those who aspire to be one carry within themselves, as well as the talent that by studying and working on oneself slowly emerges in its uniqueness.

Learning techniques is only part of the journey of an actor and actress. What makes the difference are the sensitivity and listening with which one prepares oneself to learn, the humility with which one faces challenges and experiences day after day, the awareness with which one overcomes one's fears.

Flavia Orecchio is an example of this. Student of the Lab Medium, thanks to acting, she managed to bring out her uniqueness. Co-star in recent weeks of the RAI production "Mascaria", in the role of Anna, together with little Giuseppe Barone in the role of Nino and Federica Sottile in the role of Tonia, Flavia teaches us that talent needs study, passion and humility to be defined as such.

In this interview Flavia shared with us some steps of her journey in acting, from before she started to today.

How old were you when you started acting? And where?
Since I was a child, the world of acting has always fascinated me, I had my first approach to amateur theater thanks to the performances that are often held in schools. In December 2022, seeing an advertisement on social media, I decided to enroll in the workshops of the Calabria Acting School, whose lessons developed my passion, which I had always felt part of me.

What was it like having to balance school with the Acting School and the set?
It wasn't that complicated, I've always been an organized girl: if I had tasks to complete for the SRC in conjunction with my high school studies, I always managed to carve out time for both things. The experience on set made me 'miss' about a month of school, but this did not affect my performance, I used the breaks on set to catch up on missed topics, the teachers were very helpful and interested in my experience.

How much did the Calabria Acting School help you grow and recognize your strengths? How?
The Acting School helped me grow a lot: I became much more confident. The work on ourselves that we do at SRC has allowed me to bring out different sides of my character, both the fragilities and the strengths.

This is the beauty of acting, it helps you develop not only as an actor but above all as a person, it gives you greater awareness, mastery and, above all, less fear. In fact, thanks to the lessons of the Acting School, even the fear of being judged or exposing oneself to the general public can be easily overcome.

How did it go with the cast, how did you experience these moments?
I was lucky enough to work with an exceptional cast, we established not only a professional but above all a personal relationship; we like to define ourselves as the "Mascaria" family because, at every moment and on every occasion, each of us managed to feel as if we were at home. I treasure all the moments we shared together: the endless chats during breaks, the laughter and, above all, the advice I was given.

How did you feel acting on the set of Mascaria? What effect did it have on you knowing that other SRC colleagues such as Federica and Giuseppe appeared within the cast.

Acting on the set of Mascaria was one of the best experiences I've ever had, it helped me consolidate what I learned during the lessons at the Acting School and meant that I could really put myself out there.

Knowing that Federica and Giuseppe would also be part of this beautiful project gave me yet another confirmation of the good work and the great opportunities that the SRC offers, having them also among the cast made me feel less "alone" within a new context. Especially at the beginning, having familiar faces there with me on set helped me to open up more to the other actors too

Why is acting at your age good for you?

Acting at my age is good because it makes you feel more confident, highlights your different inclinations and helps you get to know not only yourself but also others. Acting helps you understand emotions better, makes you a more empathetic person and allows you to establish more sincere social relationships, thanks to the accuracy with which you think about both your own and other people's sensations. Acting can be an outlet and help you recover in slightly more difficult moments.

Three good reasons why a young person like you should study at the Calabria Acting School.

A young person of my age should study at the SRC because this would allow him to:
- Establish friendships with other children of his age with whom he shares the same passions and inclinations.
-Reduce the time spent at home alone, or in front of a screen, occupying it with educational and healthy fun activities.
-Having many opportunities in different areas: it is a school that manages to train you in many aspects, with the right commitment and dedication it allows you to achieve great goals.
