"Hide what I am and help me find the most suitable mask to my intentions. "
William Shakespeare
The Prosopon Cultural Association, chaired by Walter Cordopatri, was born in 2016 from the desire to get involved for one's land and create art, culture, opportunities and beauty.
Prosopon is a Greek term, to underline the Magna Graecia roots of Calabria, it has fundamental meanings for us: the face of the individual, but also the actor's mask and the character represented by him. The individual, the mask, the character, Prosopon is a term that encompasses everything that has always animated this reality: the desire to fuel the love for the art of acting and at the same time contribute to the growth of the individual at 360 degrees.
The association takes its first steps by creating and collaborating on a series of events in the theatrical, cinematographic, social and cultural fields:
- “Io, Francesco di Paola”, the first monologue present on the national territory in a single act directed and performed in the first person by Walter Cordopatri on the life of the Calabrian Patron Saint on the occasion of the sixth centenary of his birth.
- “Night at the old village”, held on 18 July 2016 in the historic center of Rizziconi. A combination of social, art and identity, an all-round cultural event created to make the most of all the resources of the Calabrian territory in the sign of solidarity, paying homage among other things to the music of the legendary Lucio Dalla.
- “Because…together we can”, video made on the occasion of the grand gala on 28 January 2017 at the Cilea Theater on the day of remembrance in favor of the Hospice.
- “Free to smile”, a short film presented at the Rendano Theater in May 2016, a charity show during which the short film directed by Salvatore Romano was screened for the first time, a product created in collaboration with the association to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis and give a message of hope to the newly diagnosed.
- “There was a boy who was like us”, a theatrical show staged at the Teatro Gentile in Cittanova, directed by Antonio Salines on the life of Francesco Vinci, an innocent victim of the mafia at the age of eighteen.
- “The night is no longer scary”: Regional preview of the film “The night is no longer scary” at the Cinema Gentile in Cittanova held on May 21, 2017.
At the same time, the ideas of the Prosopon Association materialize in the birth of the SRC - Calabria Acting School, born precisely from the need to offer an opportunity to all those who intend to undertake the profession of actor in all its expressive declinations, and to all those who, with passion, approach the world of theatre, cinema and culture in general.
The Association today deals with training, theatrical and cinematographic production, demonstrations, artistic-cultural events and projects, valorisation of the territory, support for the weakest groups and people with disabilities.
Four years after their birth, SRC and Prosopon have become important points of reference. Collaboration with other associative and cultural entities present in the area broadens their horizons and allows for a surplus of opportunities and experiences. The relationships established with important bodies and exponents of the world of theater and cinema at a national and international level, the numerous demonstrations and events held since the birth of Prospon, are to be considered inputs for growth for the territory and beyond, having an increasingly broader scope that aims at the meeting of different cultures.
