Giffoni Film Festival

The collaboration between the SRC and the Giffoni Film Festival officially begins on 22 April 2017, when Claudio Gubitosi, founder and director of the Giffoni FF, the most important film festival for children and teenagers at an international level, visits Cittanova and meets for the first time, a few months after its birth, the SRC and its students. Following the meeting, fascinated by this reality in which he himself revisits the beginnings of his ambitious and stubborn project, Gubitosi decides to select six students of the School, belonging to different ages, to have them participate, as jurors, in the Giffoni Film Festival, held in July 2017.

Another important moment of collaboration and sharing was "Sogno, Realizzo, Cresco", an event organized in October 2017, which involved the schools of Cittanova and which hosted, in addition to the Director Claudio Gubitosi, also the actress Daniela Marra and Laura Aimone, responsible for the red carpet of the Venice Film Festival.

In 2018, for the second consecutive year, the SRC was present in Giffoni. The number of students involved, including official jurors and Masterclasses, increased from six to ten. Numbers reconfirmed also for subsequent years.

A very important piece in the collaboration between the two entities is the School Experience Festival project created by Giffoni Experience, which involved hundreds of children from the secondary schools of Cittanova and the Piana di Gioia Tauro from 4 to 8 November 2019 in a Film Festival dedicated to them and created in partnership with the SRC - Calabria Acting School.

The School Experience Festival is a traveling festival, created as part of the National Cinema for School Plan and promoted by MIUR and MIBAC, which involved four cities in its first edition - San Donà di Piave, Cittanova, Nuoro and Palermo - designed with the aim of raising awareness and training school students of all levels through the use of cinematographic and audiovisual language. In fact, the objective of the Giffoni Experience has always been to involve young people, an objective which thanks to this project has taken on considerable importance: reaching out to young people from all over Italy, not only ideally but also physically, means responding to their expectations and their needs, acting on the territory transforming difficulties - social and economic fragility, educational poverty and lack of services and infrastructures - into opportunities.

Thanks to this project, the link between the SRC - Calabria Acting School and the Giffoni Film Festival is further consolidated, a collaboration which today materializes in various other activities and projects of notable educational and cultural importance, one of which is certainly "Sixteen Ways to Say Hello". The project which was drawn up by the "operators" of the Giffoni Experience, who have been working with and for children all over the world for 49 years, will develop on these four pillars: supply of information, stimuli, skills, cohesion. It will evolve over 48 months and will touch 5 regions: Campania, Calabria, Basilicata, Sardinia and Veneto, involving 5000 children and over 500 figures from the educational community. In each regional territory, a cultural hub will be "built" where 1000 young people (for each region) will be engaged for 4 years (plus at least another two following the scheduled activities) in various cultural and social activities. Every year in Giffoni a 10-day campus will be organized where young people will have the opportunity to meet outside their daily lives and acquire knowledge and knowledge.

The SRC, thanks to this further initiative, confirms itself as a point of reference, both for the training of aspiring actors, but also for the implementation of activities and projects that contribute to the cultural and socio-economic development not only of the territory, but of the entire region, thanks to important and internationally relevant collaborations and partnerships, an added value of the entire cultural offer proposed.
