Audition & admission

Sixteen Seats. Three Years. No Shortcuts.

Most acting schools will tell you that talent is enough to get in the door. We won't. At SRC - Scuola di Recitazione della Calabria, we're not casting a class, we're building sixteen careers. Founded and directed by Walter Cordopatri, coordinated by Giorgio Colangeli, and housed inside Ex Carcere 1904, a former prison turned stage in the heart of Cittanova, SRC runs under the patronage of the Comune di Cittanova and holds official partnerships with the Giffoni Film Festival, ArtEZ University of the Arts, and the Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television "I.K. Karpenko-Kary."

Sixteen Seats. Three Years. No Shortcuts.

What You're Auditioning For

Three years. One building with four walls of history. A curriculum SRC claims is the only one of its kind in Italy, covering every discipline a working actor actually needs: acting technique (including the Stanislavski method), voice and diction, dance, singing, acrobatics, yoga, stage combat, fencing, mime, dramaturgy, improvisation, film history and analysis, film and theatre direction, screenwriting, set and costume design, horseback riding, dubbing, and more.

  • Year 1 - Corpo e Voce (Body and Voice): building the physical and vocal instrument. Emotional control, improvisation, Italian diction.

  • Year 2 - Il Palcoscenico (The Stage): theatre history, ethics, stagecraft, direction. The year ends with the full class mounting a live theatrical production.

  • Year 3 - La Macchina da Presa (The Camera): film acting, film history, dubbing, on-set craft. The year - and the Triennio - ends with an original short, medium, or feature film written and performed by the class, under the guidance of a working director.

Training runs November through June, with three intensive stages each year led by professionals from outside the school. Attendance at lessons, exercises, and stages is mandatory - this isn't a hobby programme, and SRC OpenAir extends the training beyond the classroom into real-world sets and productions.

How to Apply

There are two ways in. Pick the one that fits you, but know that only one of them actually gets you enrolled.

Option 1 - Pre-Audition (free, optional)

Open from 1 August 2026. Closes 30 September 2026. Submit two self-tape videos directly through the upload platform on scuolarecitazionecalabria.it:

  • Video 1: a brief self-presentation and a monologue of your choice (not a dialogue), max 3 minutes.

  • Video 2: a poem, performed from memory, max 1 minute 30 seconds.

Self-tape requirements: tight close-up framing, clear and clean audio, your eyeline at the camera as if speaking to someone, strong front lighting (never backlit), horizontal orientation if filming on a phone, MP4 format under 100MB, file named with your full name.

If you're shortlisted, you'll be called within two weeks for the in-person second audition at SRC's home in Cittanova - Strada Provinciale 1 di Gioia Tauro e Locri, n°98. This second audition is mandatory for admission.

Option 2 - Go Straight to the In-Person Audition

Skip the pre-audition entirely if you'd rather show up and prove it live. In-person auditions run every Friday and Saturday through September and October 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at SRC's Cittanova campus. Book through the website or by phone. Bring:

  • A monologue of your choice, memorized

  • A poem of your choice, memorized

  • Yourself, ready for an aptitude interview
